■ Core stance: Maybe is welcomed
Maybe It Fig is not a place to assert authenticity. It is a place to share tendencies. Asking "is this really WM1?" is welcome. You do not need to be certain — "Maybe" is the right word.
Good verification is not about confidently asserting. It's about layering photos, timing, growing conditions, source notes, and prior records — and separating "variety-like" from "feels off."
Comments that help
- Looks figgy, but need a cross-section.
- Leaf shape is close, but fruit color seems different.
- Maybe, but more photos next season would help.
- Could be the same family — not enough evidence yet.
Comments to avoid
- 100% genuine.
- Fake.
- This seller is a scammer.
- No doubt.
■ Good posts
- Post fruit + cross-section + leaf photos together
- Note the source, growing conditions, and harvest timing
- Write the label name and your doubts honestly ("bought as LSU Purple but seems off")
- Add quantitative data — brix, humidity, climate, etc.
■ Things to avoid
- Words asserting authenticity ("certified", "guaranteed genuine", "officially authentic")
- Personal attacks or seller bashing
- Reposting someone else's photos without permission
- Spam or commercial promotion
- Large unwarned shots of pest-damaged or rotting fruit (use the sensitive flag)
■ Comment rules
- Use comment types deliberately (looks figgy / maybe not / need more evidence)
- Add a reason, even one line ("cross-section color is different")
- Speak in possibilities, not assertions
■ Reclassification proposals
If a thread looks like a different variety, you can file a reclassification proposal. Only the original poster's approval can update the estimated variety.
■ Reporting
