〜 Fig variety verification board 〜
Is this really WM1? Black Madeira? Violette de Bordeaux? — throw a photo and let's discuss
Even one photo is OK / No certification needed / "Maybe" is welcome
Maybe It Fig is NOT a place to certify fig variety names.
Post photos, growing notes, source labels, and observations. The community helps verify how "variety-like" your fig is — together.
Instead of saying "this is genuine", we say things like:
- Maybe White Madeira #1
- Maybe Black Madeira
- Maybe Violette de Bordeaux
The goal: stack personal records, photos, and discussion to track variety tendencies, anomalies, and reclassification history over time.
→ About
| 1. Post your photo | Fruit, cross-section, leaf, branch, tree shape, sapling, cuttings — anything goes. Even a single photo is fine. Fruit + cross-section + leaf is the gold standard. |
| 2. Write the label | "Bought as White Madeira #1", "Got as Black Madeira KK", "Maybe it's Violette de Bordeaux" — current label or guess. |
| 3. Add growing context | Country, region, climate zone, container vs ground, harvest timing, brix, source notes — whatever you know. |
| 4. Discuss in comments | Others reply with photos, references, or questions. Not assertions — "looks similar", "something off about the leaf", "need a cross-section" — with reasons. |
| 5. Reclassify if needed | If the discussion suggests a different variety, file a reclassification proposal. Variety names are not fixed — they're updated by evidence. |
- We do not certify or guarantee variety authenticity.
- Phrases like "certified", "guaranteed genuine", or "officially authentic" are discouraged.
- This is not a place to attack sellers or suppliers.
- Posts are not evidence for refunds, lawsuits, or commercial guarantees.
- We're a community that collects photos and records to verify possibilities.
"Maybe" is for honest doubt — not a ban on confidence. If your fruit, cross-section, leaf, and source all line up and you're certain, show off your fig with pride. We celebrate well-documented finds. We just don't pretend to authenticate them.
"This IS White Madeira #1 — 8 years in the same pot, same source, identical to the WM1 cuttings I traded in 2024. Cross-section attached."
