[Reference entry - not a grower report]
This post was auto-generated from public fig references to build out the variety archive. It's not someone's actual growing experience, and the photos are just generic Wikimedia images of Ficus carica, not this specific variety. If you've grown this one and want to correct anything, please jump in!
Moro di Caneva is an Italian fig with dark purple to almost black skin when ripe. The flesh is supposed to be deep red or dark purple, sweet, and have that jam-like texture. Medium-sized fruit with kind of an oblong or pear shape. It produces both breba and main crop, with the main crop ripening in late summer into autumn. It's mainly documented from the Veneto region and probably goes by different local names depending on where you are. Sometimes people mix it up with other dark Italian varieties like Moro di Caltanissetta or Melanzana, but Moro di Caneva supposedly has a slightly different flavor and ripens at a different time.
