[Reference entry - not a grower report]
This post was auto-generated from public fig references to help build out the variety archive. It's not anyone's actual growing experience, and the photos are just generic Wikimedia images of Ficus carica, not this specific variety. If you've grown Hortella and have corrections or info, please share!
Hortella is a Portuguese fig variety that's pretty common around the Iberian Peninsula. The fruit's supposed to be small to medium with pale greenish or yellowish skin, sometimes with some russetting. The flesh is pink to red and sweet. It produces both breba and main crop, with the main crop ripening in late summer through early autumn. There's not a ton of English-language documentation out there, so real grower experiences from people in Portugal and the region are honestly the best source we've got to nail down the details.
